St. Martin Medical School, founded in 1982 by Rev.Fr. KARL HARTAL and Rev.Fr. CHARLES NKENDE, was established to address the shortage of health workers at the time. Initially, the school trained Nurse Aiders and later progressed to train Nursing Assistants. However, the government of Uganda eventually discontinued this category of health cadres.

In 2007, St. Martin expanded its offerings by introducing laboratory training and obtained accreditation for certificate training in laboratory techniques in 2008. Over the years, the institute continued to provide certificate-level training until April 2023 when it achieved accreditation to offer a Diploma-level program in Laboratory Technology.

Currently, St. Martin Medical School offers accredited courses in laboratory technology, but it is actively pursuing accreditation for Nursing and Midwifery programs. This endeavor aligns with the school’s original mission, inspired by its patron Saint Martin, who was known as a dispenser, nurse, and pharmacist.

The institute’s patron saint, inspired by Jesus Christ, serves as a model for its services. Consequently, St. Martin Medical School’s training program aims to shape its cadres to provide high-quality healthcare services, following the example set by Jesus, the ultimate servant, and St. Martin, who devoted himself to emulate Christ’s service.

While the institute warmly welcomes and is prepared to educate individuals from all religious backgrounds, it is essential to emphasize that all recruits must be willing to adhere to and respect the institution’s core values, which guide specific rules and regulations. Nonetheless, the training program is universally inclusive and holistic in nature, strategically designed to produce fully competent healthcare professionals capable of serving in diverse life situations and delivering exceptional healthcare services to all.
